July 29th and 30th Finnerty Islands off the NW shore of Lasqueti rafted
with B Mondo: We left Hornby with very light winds and tried to sail
across the Strait of Georgia. We floated for about an hour while
fishing and then decided to motor across since the winds were not enough
to sail. The Finnerty Islands are a beautiful small group of
uninhabited rock islands close to False Bay. We got the dinghies out
and paddled up the narrow passages amongst the rocks. Leif and Lisa it
was reminiscent of a dinghy trip up the mangroves following “Bogy and
Kate!” Carl and Pam caught four quillback rock fish and one small
flounder so it was fish for dinner with nice pasta from Walt and Odile.
Carl lost two large fishing jigs to two Spiny Dogfish which are
medium-sized sharks. This morning Pam and Odile dinghied back at low
tide and harvested fresh oysters, mussels, littleneck clams and a few
cockles. You could ship wreck here and survive for decades I am sure!
