August
10th departing Princess Louisa Inlet: This morning we are up earlier
so that we can get in line to “shoot” the Malibu Rapids while they are
calm. We go through around 0826 with about 20 other boats. Even at
this hour many of the campers are up and about at the Malibu Youth Camp.
Today is pretty uneventful. We travel back out the Jervis Inlet with
the wind against us again. Ever hopeful we have the front sail out and
Carl acts as a human “preventer” and holds the sail as far out as he can
to catch our whisper of wind. We go up Hotham Sound to view another
nice waterfall that cascades 1400 feet down from Freil Lake into the
sound. We then venture south through the Agamemnon channel fighting
wind and current and travelling rather slowly. We are not sure if this
is also due in part to another hiccup from the engine. We will baby it
awhile and see. We arrive at Pender Harbour and anchor off of Garden
Bay Marine Park. We row ET ashore and do our town chores stocking up on
fresh fruit and veges. We also have a great burger and fries at
“Laverne’s diner. Last evening we were serenaded very nicely by a man
and his guitar and (sometimes) harmonica on the deck of his boat the
“Jolly Mon” with Chatterbox Falls chattering in the background. This
evening we have front row seats for a local band who although they sound
pretty good thankfully quit playing around 10 PM.
