July
10th dockside in Fidalgo Bay: Since we are not positive if we will
have forward gear while we move to the hoist Odile will ride along with
us and Walt will follow in their dinghy to give us a push if needed. We
make it just fine and ExTerra is hauled out of the water so the
mechanics can complete their work. We spent the day working on small
projects ourselves and then had a wonderful dinner on B Mondo courtesy
of Walt and Odile. Their boat is our home away from home this evening.
July 11th on the hard at North Island Boat Works: We continue small
boat chores while Chris installs the new transmission that Mike brought
for us. How did he put it……”I’m not going to rebuild your tranny. It
would cost you more to rebuild than it will to install the new one I
found.” Carl has done some online shopping so he knows that the prices
Mike mentions are correct and we decide for a new tranny on our old
boat. Carl is able to remove the muffler piping so that Chris has more
room to install the tranny and it goes well. We are done and ready to
go back into the water but will not be able to do that until tomorrow as
the lift is busy. We are able to go and help Walt and Odile paint and
troubleshoot some items on B Mondo since she is out of the water as
well. Given that both our boats are on the hard we opt to spend a night
in town and have a delicious meal at Anthony’s overlooking the Cap
Sante Marina with Mt. Baker in the background.
July 12th in B Mondo’s slip: Happy Birthday Aiden!! You are 11 today
and we enjoyed talking with you, Sophie and Dad this evening. Our boat
is back on the water. The transmission goes forward and reverse.
Yippee! This evening we are the host boat for Walt and Odile. It is a
nice evening to reminisce about the trip, lessons learned and
friendships strengthened.
