August
6th rafted in Homfray Channel: This morning we part ways with Walt,
Odile and B Mondo. We have learned a lot from Walt and Odile and have
enjoyed sharing some of their favorite anchorages. They have been
sailing these waters and the Salish Sea for many years and we can see
that they truly love what they are doing. They will head north today
and we will head south. We have a short trip to Lund. Years ago Carl
and I did a car camping trip and ended up in Lund to rent kayaks for the
day. It is a delightful, very small coastal town and is the end of the
main road for the west coast of British Columbia mainland. While we
really enjoy anchoring out part of sailing for Carl and I is to
experience the small towns along the way. We have a nice lunch at
Nancy’s bakery then take the short “Lund Loop” walk up the hill and back
down. We stock up at the store, do some laundry, take out the garbage
and recycles, pretty much just like the ‘home’ chores. Most importantly
– a Real Shower . Boat showers are usually a refreshing dip in the
ocean followed by a fresh water solar shower rinse down but for two
loonies (Canadian dollars) you get 4 minutes of a very welcome shower.
After a beautiful sunset we turn in and listen to a bunch of young
children who have come to the end of our dock to sit for awhile. They
are amused by Pam’s boat step. They chatter back and forth with their
mom about taking a swing on the boat…..”Mom I am sure it is a swing and
we could have some fun!” It is indeed a swing from a swing set that Pam
has hung over the side of the boat so she can safely step off of the
boat rather than jump off when tying up to docks. We chuckle to
ourselves glad to have been a spot of amusement for the youngsters and
missing our grandkids even more. We are heading south by way of the
mainland then over to the San Juans or the Gulf Islands and then to Neah
Bay to wait for our weather window off of the coast of Washington. We
may or may not have internet for all of that so ta ta for now!
