July 21, 2014
July 20th and 21st – It has been nice having Barb and Craig aboard but
they depart around 0830 for home. Carl is troubleshooting the
alternator issue. We hiked to town to get parts to make a test light.
He has determined that the alternator and the regulator are fine. He
goes on to explain that on the male side of the wiring there is a small
“excite-or” wire that is not working. If the “excitor” is not working
the alternator does not put out. I quip that it sounds like a typical
male wiring issue but I digress. We hook a wire in the right places,
excite the alternator, it puts out charge to the battery and we now have
everything working. We hike to town again and buy some more small
parts and a new alternator belt. This afternoon we will head out to
troll for salmon, perhaps a halibut and anchor in Spring Cove just at
the entrance to Ucluelet Inlet.
