July 3 Fish Basin to Ahclakerho Islands We
depart at 0730 so we will have a slack before flood to enter the Ahclakerho
channel. We all call this the
Abracadabra channel since we keep stumbling over the pronunciation. We quickly spot large whales in the distance
on either side of us in MacBride Bay and Boswell Inlet.
Entomologist Pictograph |
We go through the Ahclakerho Channel narrows at
high tide pausing long enough to find the pictograph. Hamilton’s book (Cruising the Secret Coast)
describes it as a 1foot high bug done in ochre.
Our photos and binoculars show it to also have a face on the body of a
bug. Scientists that we are we decide
that a very early entomologist decided to let people know that they had been
here.
This time we set the anchor as we need to be
doing more testing and practice with our new Magnus anchor. The chain sounds different so after we set
the hook we trade places, Carl coming to the anchor and Pam to the helm and set
it again to see if we both think it is set well. It is.
B Mondo ties up alongside and we get on with afternoon activities. Walt sets off in a dinghy, Odile in a kayak,
Carl and Pam in a dinghy. Crab and
shrimp pots are set, fishing is done and no decent fish is harvested.
