July 2 anchored Fish Basin This is a peaceful, well protected
anchorage. Carl explores in the dinghy
and Odile in her kayak.
She hikes a
short distance to the other side and finds numerous crab pots and a
‘treasure.’ Pam later dinghies over to
retrieve the ‘treasure.’ It is simply a
plastic wash basin but it will work nicely to contain Pam’s wood conditioning
oil, stain, sanding block etc. Now we
can re-commit our black bucket to its proper place as a fish and crab rinsing
pot.
Carl and Odile bring back a
veritable feast of fish. Three
greenling, one small ling cod and four rockfish. The crab pot Carl set only gives up two
keeper crabs with many non-keepers female Dungeness returned to the sea.
It has been a long, damp day so dinner is inside
B Mondo’s toasty salon. Walt has made special
brownies with drizzled frosting for dessert in their diesel stove, and the
still radiating heat is wonderful as are the brownies. Odile has stretched the clam chowder by combining
it with the left over pasta and some corn.
Pam’s Dad Sam would call this slumgullion. It hits the spot. Lots of rockfish to share which leads us to a
discussion on how to vary our fish cooking recipes.
