July Rounding Cape Caution – The winds are light, the
swell and seas less than 2 meters so the trip around Cape Caution is easy.
This is considered a ‘coming of age’ nautical
moment so we are coming of age nautically with only one memorable come to Jesus
moment (having to do with dense fog, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and a
Pacific Basin cargo ship in 2014).
B Mondo Rounding Cape Caution |
We watch as Walt and Odile on B Mondo round the
Cape, sometimes disappearing in the swell.
It is odd to have west swell on our nose instead of on our beam as it is
when we transit the Washington coast.
Along the way we see only two fishing boats and
a long tow tug and container barge.
We do see our first Puffin and sea otters peacefully riding the swell. Numerous eagles roost on the Gnarly Islands as we enter Smith Inlet. B Mondo throws out her anchor in delightful Fish Basin and we celebrate our rounding of the cape. B Mondo shares more of their nice Washington State Cougar hard cheese and crackers and we all toast to a successful rounding of the cape after a nearly 12 hour day.
