June 16th Cathlamet to Astoria

June 16th              As with every year, the boat chores started early.  We sprung a new leak on the port side large window as we slogged through rain all day so today found Pam caulking the entire window in hopes of staving off a larger repair until at least this fall.

Then we headed out for Astoria.  It was nice to arrive in Astoria with plenty of time to check things out and relax before heading out to sea the next day.  We topped off the fuel tanks, filled the two diesel cans, and tied up to wait for our guests.

Carl’s brother Jim drove our son Zach and his two kids, Aiden and Sophie to meet us.  Jim will drive up the coast to West Port and pick them up for their return trip home.  It is a bit of a new, daunting undertaking for Pam to have grandkids on board on an ocean leg but it is a good challenge to overcome as the grandkids are getting old enough to do these things.

We took our time to fit their life jackets and safety harnesses.  Papa made us a bunch of popcorn then we all went to bed anticipating a 0300 alarm clock.
